Security Cameras for your Home

Security CamerasYou may have never thought about adding security cameras in your home.  To many people, surveillance cameras are devices found in malls, office buildings, and grocery stores, but not in homes.  However, cameras are becoming more and more affordable and they are starting to appear in more homes than ever.

Why?  Because selecting security cameras for your home is one of the most cost-effective and best ways to deter criminals.  Just the presence of video surveillance will make potential thieves think twice about attempting a break in.

When choosing security cameras for your home, there are a few important factors to keep in mind.  First of all, you will need to decide where you would like to place the cameras.  Some people choose to mount surveillance cameras only on the outside of their homes.  Others prefer to have cameras both inside and outside.  The choice if up to you, but in general the more area you are able to cover with your home security cameras, the better.

Choosing security cameras for your home can sometimes be quite confusing.  Even after you have chosen the positions of the cameras, there are still many other decisions to be made.  Your next step should be to take a look at the different types of security cameras.

Bullet Security CamerasFor your home, there are two major types of surveillance cameras to consider: bullet cameras and dome cameras.  These two types of cameras are different in their shape and in their usage.  Bullet security cameras are long, thin cameras that can be mounted in a number of places.  Dome security cameras, as the name suggests, are usually covered in a plastic dome.  They are most frequently found on ceilings.

Dome Security CamerasThe main advantage to dome cameras is that, because they are covered, it makes it more difficult to see where they are pointing.  In many cases, the cover also acts as protection from vandals.  Both options are good choices when considering security cameras for your home.

Another decision you will need to make when choosing security cameras for your home is whether you wish to record in black and white or in colour.  Again, there are advantages to both options.  Black and white recording is usually cheaper and it is often better for usage in low light situations.  Colour recording can cost more, but it is usually much more useful at picking out small details in video.

With a bit of research you will be able to find the right security cameras for your home.
