Keys tags, sometimes called fobs, are small electronic devices that serve as keys for doors run by electronically controlled proximity readers. Usually small enough to be attached to key chains, key tags are a form of access control that is designed as a more modern take on the traditional key and lock. Through installing a proximity card system users are able to replace many keys with one small key tag. These key tags allow entrance to restricted areas through a contactless wave of the tag over a proximity reader. This system has become popular for many residential and commercial buildings with common entrances as a means to provide added security. Among the many benefits of the system is the fact that it allows the owner to control who gets in through the distribution of key tags but also when they are allowed access as each individual card can be set up to allow entrance to certain doors or all doors at various times.
