Richview is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the former City of Etobicoke in the west end of Toronto. The neighbourhood’s boundaries are Dixon Road in the north, Eglinton Avenue in the south, Royal York Road in the east and highways 427 and 401 in the west. The neighbourhood is also known by its riding name of “Willowridge-Martingrove-Richview.” The neighbourhood can be broken down into smaller regions. These regions include such as Humber Heights, Kingsview Village, Willowridge, Martin Grove Gardens and the Westway, which is also known as St. Phillp’s. Humber Heights is set in he Humber River Valley. Willowridge is located at the far west of the neighbourhood west of Martin Grove. The Westway/St. Phillip’s is in the northwest portion of the Richview neighbourhood. It is located east of Kipling and north of The Westway. Martin Grove Gardens is the area bounded by Kipling, The Westway, Martin Grove, and Dixon. Schools in the Richview neighbourhood include Kipling Collegiate Institute, Richview Collegiate Institute, St Marcellus Catholic Elementary School, Hilltop Middle School and Princess Margaret Junior School.

Richview Crime Rates

In the area bordered by Highway 401 in the north, Highway 427 in the west, Martin Grove Road in the east and Eglinton Avenue in the south, there is an average of 7.53 crimes against people per 1000 living and working in the region. There is an average of 9.23 crimes against property per 1000. In the region bordered by Dixon Road, Martin Grove Road, the Westway and Kipling Avenue, there is an average of 6.47 crimes against people per 1000 and 11.15 crimes against property. The area bordered by the Westway, Martin Grove Road, Eglinton Avenue and Kipling Avenue has an average of 9.62 crimes against people and 18.61 crimes against property. The Richview region surrounded by Dixon Road, the Westway, Kipling Avenue and Islington Avenue has an average of 5.27 crimes against people and 22.79 crimes against property per 1000. The area bordered by the Westway, Eglinton Avenue, Kipling Avenue and Islington Avenue has an average of 2.64 crimes against people and 13.19 crimes against property. The area bordered by Dixon Road, the Westway, Islington Avenue and Royal York Road has an average of 5.84 crimes against people and 18.5 crimes against property. The region just south, which is bordered by the Westway, Eglinton Avenue, Islington Avenue and Royal York Road has an average of 4.67 crimes against people and 16.78 crimes against property.

Richview Crime

In January 2012, two men were shot near Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue. From the Toronto Star:

The shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the The Westway Plaza parking lot , near Dixon Rd. and Kipling Ave, between TD Canada Trust and Country Style Donuts. Police said the two victims, both 20, were approached by a vehicle and multiple shots were fired. Police said one of the men was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released. The second man was admitted to hospital.

In August 2011, a man was beaten and stabbed in the Eglinton and Martin Grove area. From City TV:

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries early Wednesday after he was stabbed and robbed in the Eglinton Avenue and Martin Grove Road area. Police said the victim was attacked around 1:10 a.m. The man was stabbed in the legs and, apparently, struck with a baseball bat. His attackers took his cellphone. The badly-injured man then made his way to a coffee shop at The Westway and Martin Grove to call 911.

In March 2011, a man was shot and killed in an apartment building in Richview. From City TV:

A 24-year-old man was found dead after a shooting in an Etobicoke apartment building Sunday afternoon. Officials say the victim had been shot in the head. He was found lying in a stairwell of 320 Dixon Rd., west of Islington Avenue, around 1:30 p.m. This fatal shooting marks the city’s 15th homicide of 2011. Police haven’t released the man’s name and haven’t said if he lived in the building.

A man was stabbed in a plaza near Islington and Dixon Road in October 2010. From the Toronto Star:

An 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen on Sunday shortly after midnight. Police found the man suffering minor injuries in a plaza near Islington Ave. and Dixon Rd. The man was treated at hospital and later released. Police said he was not cooperating.

Cliffside is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the eastern portion of the city, in what was once the City of Scarborough. Cliffside’s location is alongside the Scarborough Bluffs. The neighbourhood’s boundaries are Kennedy Road (where Kingston and Danforth Road merge) in the west, St. Clair Avenue East in the north, Brimley Road in the east and the Bluffs to the south. The neighbourhood features primarily single-family homes in a variety of styles. There is also a busy retail strip along Kingston Road and a number of parks, including the Bluffs themselves. There are also a number of schools in the Cliffside neighbourhood, including R.H. King Academy, Blessed Cardinal Newman and Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute.

Cliffside Crime Rates – Scarborough

The Cliffside neighbourhood is ranked the 55th safest out of 140 Toronto neighbourhoods. The region east of Midland Avenue has an average of 5.91 crimes against people and 18.21 crimes against property per 1000 living and working in the area. West of Midland there is an average of 16.81 crimes against people and 26.91 crimes against property. In order to properly determine the crime statistics of an area, it is important to look at the crime rates of the surrounding neighbourhoods, not just the particular neighbourhood in question. Criminals do not remain inside predefined boundaries. The Scarborough Junction area is directly north of Cliffside and thus reviewing the crime statistics for this region will give you an idea of crime in the general area.

Cliffside Crime – Scarborough

In September 2011 a neighbourhood drug store was broken into and a large amount of potentially fatal medication was stolen. From Inside Toronto:

Police have issued a public safety alert after a quantity of medication was taken during a break-in at a Scarborough drug store. Police said 500 tablets of Tylenol 3 and 500 tables of Tylenol 2 were stolen from Cliffside Pharmacy at 2340 Kingston Rd. between 8 and 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. “The medication could be harmful/fatal if ingested, especially to children,” police said in a news release. Demerol, Hydromorph and Vyvanse were also stolen.

Oakwood–Vaughan, also known as Oakwood Village, is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the former municipality of York. The neighbourhood’s borders are Eglinton Avenue in the north, Dufferin Street in the west, St. Clair Avenue in the south and Winnett Avenue and Arlington Avenue in the east. In addition to Dufferin Street and Eglinton Avenue, the main streets in the neighbourhood are Oakwood Avenue, Vaughan Road and Rogers Road. Oakwood Village can be further broken down into two smaller regions. The neighbourhood’s northern half is nicknamed “Five Points,” as it is the intersection of Oakwood Avenue, Vaughan Road and Belvidere Avenue. The western half of Oakwood-Vaughan is sometimes called “Northcliffe.” The neighbourhood contains two high schools (Oakwood Collegiate Institute and Vaughan Road Academy) as well as several middle schools and elementary schools. There are also two public libraries in the region: Oakwood Village public library and Maria A. Shchuka public library.

Oakwood–Vaughan Crime Rates

When researching crime rates in order to determine the safety of an area, it is important to pay attention to the crime rate in the area as a whole as well as the surrounding area, rather than just the specific numbers for smaller regions. Only when taking both into account can you truly understand the amount of property crime and crime against people in the neighbourhood. In addition to researching Oakwood Village crime rates, the crime rates for nearby Humewood-Cedarvale – as well as other nearby Toronto neighbourhoods – should be looked at as well. In Oakwood-Vaughan, the area bordered by Eglinton Avenue, Vaughan Road and Winnett Avenue has an average of 11.78 crimes against people per 1000 living and working in the area. This region has an average of 15.7 crimes against property per 1000. The area bordered by Vaughan Road, Rogers Road, Dufferin Street and Oakwood Avenue, has an average of 10.52 crimes against people and 16.39 crimes against property. This area includes Fairbanks Memorial Park. The region bordered by Rogers Road, St. Clair Avenue, Oakwood Avenue and Westmount Avenue has an average of 6.65 crimes against people and 12.93 crimes against property per 1000. West of Westmount Avenue to Dufferin Street and outside of the Oakwood-Vaughan neighbourhood there is an average of 7.71 crimes against people and 17.04 crimes against property. The area bordered by Vaughan Road, St. Clair Avenue, Oakwood Avenue and Arlington Avenue has an average of 7.5 crimes against people and 11.77 crimes against property per 1000 living and working in the region.

Oakwood–Vaughan Crime

In December 2011, a robbery and swarming took place in the Oakwood and Vaughan Road area. From Toronto Police Service:

A 37 year old male reports that on December 12, 2011 at approximately 0300 hours he was walking with a friend in the area of Oakwood Avenue and Vaughan Road when he was approached by four male suspects. The suspects grabbed the victim, threw him to the ground and removed his wallet. The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was rendered unconscious and sustained several injuries about his body and will seek his own medical attention.

In September 2011 police seized drugs and a gun from a man in the Eglinton and Oakwood Avenue area. From InsideToronto:

A man faces a dozen charges after police seized drugs and a gun in the Eglinton and Oakwood avenues area. Police allege officers conducted an undercover drug transaction with a man on Wednesday, Sept. 21. A suspect was arrested. Police allegedly seized drugs, cash and a handgun.

In August 2011, two people were stabbed in the Eglinton and Oakwood area. From CP24:

Police are searching for a suspect after two men were stabbed at a bar early Sunday morning. The incident happened at a bar on Eglinton Avenue west of Oakwood Avenue. Police said two men were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. One man was stabbed in the chest, the other was stabbed in the arm.

In May 2010, a man was shot and killed in the Oakwood–Vaughan neighbourhood. From City News:

Homicide detectives are investigating after a male was shot and killed in the west end Monday afternoon. Shortly after 3:30pm, emergency crews arrived at the scene on Winona Dr., near St. Clair and Vaughan avenues, and found a male with a bullet wound in the chest. The victim had no vital signs and was rushed to the trauma centre at St. Michael’s Hospital. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Humber Valley Village is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the former City of Etobicoke. It is in the political riding of Etobicoke Centre, in the west end of the City of Toronto. The Humber Valley Village neighbourhood boundaries are Dundas Street in the south, Islington Avenue in the west, Eglinton Avenue in the north and the Humber River in the east. Royal York Road runs through the middle of the neighbourhood in a north/south direction. The Humber Valley Village neighbourhood can be further broken down into smaller neighbourhoods. The area north of Dundas from Islington to Royal York, but south of Reigate is known as “Chestnut Hills.” The region near Edenbridge Drive, west Royal York is known as “Lincoln Woods.” The Islington Avenue and Eglinton Avenue area is sometimes referred to as “The Greens of St. George’s.”

Humber Valley Village Crime Rates

In the area bordered by Eglinton Avenue in the north, Dundas Street in the south, Islington Avenue in the west and Royal York Road in the east, there is an average of 2.55 crimes against people committed per 1000 people living and working in the area. There is an average of 12.12 property crimes committed per 1000. The region bordered by Eglinton Avenue in the north, Royal York Road in the west, Scarlett Road in the east and North Drive and Edenbridge Drive in the south, there is an an average of 4.92 crimes against people and 14.96 crimes against property per 1000 living and working in the area. East of Scarlett Road to the Humber River there is an average of 8.78 crimes against people and 15.39 crimes against property per 1000. South of North Drive and Edenbridge Drive to Dundas West, between Royal York Road and the Humber River, there is an average of 5.27 crimes against people and 23 property crimes per 1000 people living and working in the region.

Humber Valley Village Crime

In October 2008, a 17-year-old was shot and killed at Buttonwood Park near Eglinton Ave. West and Royal York Rd. From the Toronto Star:

Police said they responded to a report of gunshots at Buttonwood Park at about 10:40 p.m. Friday. The park, near Eglinton Ave. West and Royal York Rd., has a tennis court and two children’s playgrounds and is surrounded by well-maintained homes and several apartment buildings. … Boris [Cikovic] was on his way to a pizza restaurant with a group of friends Friday evening. They were jumped in a park by four youths who apparently wanted to steal their cellphones and anything else of value. … Officers found Cikovic suffering from “obvious signs of trauma” and took him to hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a police statement. Police did not reveal any further details about their investigation, including possible suspects, and are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the murder to come forward.

In June 2009, a woman was attacked and assaulted in the Royal York and Dundas area. From CityTV:

Police are searching for a man accused of sexual assault after a woman was attacked on Sunday. The alleged altercation happened around 8pm near Royal York Rd. and Dundas St. Officers say the suspect approached the woman from behind, grabbed her, and assaulted her. She screamed and struggled and finally broke free. The suspect fled on foot.

In May 2011 a man was stabbed in the Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue area. From CP24:

A 24-year-old man was stabbed and then taken into custody near Scarlett Road and Eglinton Avenue West Saturday morning. Police say the man was selling drugs to three other men outside an apartment building on Fontenay Court when he was stabbed in the leg shortly after midnight. He then pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the men as they fled the area. It’s still not clear if he actually shot anyone.

Scarborough Junction (also known as Kennedy Park) is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the Scarborough region of the city. The neighbourhood boundaries are Birchmount Road in the west, Brimley Road in the east, Eglinton Avenue in the north and St. Clair Avenue in the south. The neighbourhood gets its name from the railway tracks that run through the area alongside Danforth Road. It received this name in 1873 when a post office using this name was opened near Kennedy Road and St. Clair Avenue. The neighbourhood is made up of mostly single-family homes and Pine Hills Cemetary takes up a significant portion of the neighbourhood’s area. The amount of parkland in this region is the reason it is sometimes known as “Kennedy Park.”

Scarborough Junction Crime Rates

In the area bordered by Eglinton Avenue in the north, Birchmount Road in the west, Kennedy Road in the east and the ravine south of Chelwood Road and Frimette Court in the south, there is an average of 9.5 crimes against people per 1000 living and working in the region. There is an average of 10.06 crimes against property per 1000. South of this region to St. Clair Avenue, still between Kennedy Road and Birchmount Road, there is an average of 15.89 crimes against people and 20.38 crimes against property. The average crime rates are the same in the area bordered by Eglinton Avenue, Kennedy Road, Corvette Avenue and the public transit tracks heading into Kennedy Station. The region directly to the west across to Brimley Road and bordered by the train tracks leading to Kennedy Station, Danforth Road (until Falmouth Avenue) and the train tracks east of Glenshepard Drive (not including Glenshepard Park) has an average of 10.94 crimes against people per 1000 and 23.49 crimes against property. The area bordered by Corvette Avenue in the north,  St. Clair Avenue in the south, Kennedy Road in the west and Midland Avenue in the east, there is an average of 7.08 crimes against people and 17.75 crimes against property. In the region bordered by Danforth Road in the north, the train tracks in the south, Midland Avenue in the west and Glenshepard Drive in the east (including Glenshepard Park) there is an average of 11.27 crimes against people and 16.91 crimes against property. South of the train tracks to St. Clair Avenue, there is an average of 12.24 crimes against people and 17.31 crimes against property.

Scarborough Junction Crime

In February 2011 a man was stabbed in the area. The victim walked home before calling police. From 680 News:

Local police are investigating a stabbing that took place in Scarborough. Police are having a hard time find the crime scene. The victim called police from his home on Danforth Road shortly before 10 p.m. Friday night. Police said he was actually stabbed somewhere else in the Brimley Road and Eglinton Avenue area.

In September 2011, a man was shot and killed near Birchmount Road and Danforth Road. From CBC News:

Toronto police are investigating after a man was shot and killed early Saturday morning near Birchmount Road and Danforth Road. The shooting took place at about 4 a.m., according to police. The victim was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

In July 2010, a man died after being stabbed in the Scarborough Junction neighbourhood. From CTV:

A man in his thirties is dead after he was stabbed in the city’s east end early Wednesday morning. Police say the victim was stabbed at Magnolia Avenue at Danforth Road and drove himself to a gas station across the street from Scarborough General Hospital just before 4 a.m.

Another man was stabbed in the area in April 2010. This time the stabbing occurred near Birchmount Road and St. Clair Avenue. From Inside Toronto:

A man is recovering after being stabbed in the abdomen on Birchmount Road Friday, April 30, afternoon. The violence occurred north of St. Clair Avenue at about 3 p.m. The victim was in stable condition when taken by ambulance to St. Michael’s Hospital.

Kensington Market is a Toronto neighbourhood and primarily outdoor market located in downtown Toronto. The neighbourhood boundaries are College Street in the north, Dundas Street in the south, Spadina Avenue in the east and Bathurst Street in the west.  Other major streets in the area include Augusta Avenue, Nassau Street, Baldwin Street and Kensington Avenue. Kensington Market Crime Rates

The Kensington Market neighbourhood has an average of 12.71 crimes against people per 1000 living and working in the region. It also has an average of 41.76 crimes against property per 1000. When looking at the crime rate of a specific area it is important that you do not focus all of your attention solely on the exact neighbourhood in question. Criminals do not immediately stop at certain streets or other arbitrary boundaries. Therefore you are able to determine more about a neighbourhood by looking at the areas that surround it as well. Kensington Market Crime

In May 2011, three men were shot in Kensington Market. From CBC News:

Three men were shot early Sunday morning outside an after-hours club in Toronto’s Kensington Market, police said. Emergency personnel were dispatched to an area on Augusta Avenue near Denison Square around 4:30 a.m. Paramedics said they took one person to hospital with a minor gunshot wound, but police later said three people had been shot and injured, all minor.

Weeks later, in June 2011, another shooting took place in the area. From Inside Toronto:

Toronto Police are investigating the second shooting in as many weeks in the Kensington Market area. This latest incident took place Sunday, June 12 at 3:30 a.m. when two groups of men reportedly got into an altercation outside a bar near College and Bathurst streets. Investigators report one of the men involved in the fight pulled out a handgun and shot a man in his 20s in the stomach. A second man in his 40s suffered a gun shot wound to the leg. Both victims were rushed to hospital and treated for their injuries.

In August 2010, two people were taken to the hospital after a shooting on Grange Avenue, near Augusta. From the Toronto Star:

Two men were taken to hospital Thursday evening after a double shooting near Kensington Market. According to police, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. on Grange Ave., near Augusta Ave. When officers arrived they found two victims — a man in his early 20s who had been shot in the torso and a second man who was shot in the foot, an EMS official confirmed. Both were taken to a nearby trauma center — the man in his early 20s in serious condition. The second victim is expected to recover.

In July 2009 a man was stabbed repeatedly with a broken golf club in Bellevue Square Park near Kensington Market. From Digital Journal:

A man was found stabbed four times with the shaft of a broken golf club Wednesday evening near Kensington Market in Toronto. The man was rushed to hospital before 7 pm with serious injuries. He was stabbed in the face, twice in the right side and once in his lower back.

In May 2007 a man was shot in Kensington Market. From CTV:

A man in his mid-20s was shot in the head near Kensington Market early Sunday morning, the Toronto Star reports. Emergency officials found the victim on Augusta Avenue, near College Street and Spadina Avenue, after being called to the scene at about 3 a.m. Kensington Market Crime Report article from Safetech Security @ 2012

York University Heights, also known as Northwood Park and The Village at York, is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located around the main campus of York University. It is one of the northernmost neighbourhoods in the city. The neighbourhood’s boundaries include Steeles Avenue in the north, Dufferin Street in the east, Sheppard Avenue in the south and the Black Creek Parkland in the west. The Jane and Finch neighbourhood is located to the west of York University Heights and the Downsview neighbourhood is located directly south. The neighbourhood contains a mix of established communities and new developments as well as a mix of high-rise buildings, semi-detached homes, townhomes, condominiums and student housing. Since the university campus is located in this neighbourhood, many students live in this region.

York University Heights Crime Rates

In the area bordered by Finch Avenue in the north, Grandravine Drive in the south, Keele Street in the east and Black Creek in the west, there is an average of 11.36 crimes against people per 1000 living and working in the area. There is an average of 17.85 crimes against property per 1000. South of Grandravine Drive to Sheppard, still between Black Creek and Keele Street, there is an average of 10.78 crimes against people and 10.29 crimes against property. The remaining area of York University Heights, including the area north of Finch Avenue, York University campus itself and the region east of Keele, has an average of 4.65 crimes against people and 20.41 crimes against property.

York University Heights Crime

On February 23, 2012, a man was arrested and charged after shots were fired in a York University dormitory. From the Toronto Star:

A first-year law student has been arrested after shots were fired in a dormitory Saturday morning at York University. Police were called to 360 Assiniboine Rd., located on the southern boundary of the campus around 6:45 a.m. Police said someone fired a shotgun at the door, causing projectiles to go through the door and into the apartment. A female student was in the apartment at the time but didn’t suffer any injuries. During investigation, police learned that the occupant of the apartment had issues with the door and its lock. Following his arrest, police seized a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun and a 22 calibre rifle along with a substantial number of rounds of ammunition for each gun.

In January 2012, a man was arrested after he entered women’s washrooms and used his camera phone to take pictures. From Canoe.ca:

Toronto Const. Tony Vella said the man was spotted by two women who used a bathroom in Curtis Lecture Hall at the main campus shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. He said one woman noticed a man’s legs in the stall next to hers and the second woman later confirmed the sighting. At one point, Vella said the women noticed the man pointing a camera phone under the stall wall towards them.

In May 2011 a woman was sexually assaulted on York campus. From City TV:

A 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside the Seneca College building on York University campus, police allege. Investigators say the attack took place on Thursday around 4 p.m. The victim, a student at York, was walking on campus when she noticed an individual following closely behind her. When she entered the Seneca building, the suspect trailed her, and began assaulting her in the building’s main hall. The woman tried to evade the man by entering an office, but he continued to pursue her, attacking her a second time. She was able to escape by entering another office and closing the door behind her, prompting the suspect to flee on foot.

In April 2011 a woman was murdered in her home near York University campus. Also from City TV:

The death of a 23-year-old York University student is now being treated as a homicide and a man is in custody charged with her murder, police announced at a brief press conference Wednesday. Qian Liu was found dead in a basement apartment near York University on April 15. She had apparently been chatting with her boyfriend in China via webcam hours before her body was found. The boyfriend told police he saw Liu struggle with another man before Liu’s computer was shut off. An autopsy proved inconclusive but toxicology results are still pending. “It has been deemed a homicide,” said Homicide Insp. Edward Boyd.

Also in April 2011, a woman was assaulted in a bar on campus. From CTV:

Valerie Bustros, 24, said that when she went into the washroom at the university’s Absinthe Pub, a man swore at her. When she came outside of the washroom, more words were exchanged before she was jumped, Bustros said. CTV’s Tamara Cherry reported that Bustros did not know if she was attacked because she’s a woman, because she’s a lesbian or because a few men were looking for a fight.

In November 2009 a man was shot and killed in the Finch and Keele area. From CP24:

Toronto police have identified a man shot to death in the city’s north end late Tuesday night. Police were called to a townhouse complex at 202 Sentinel Rd. near Finch Avenue and Keele Street just after 11:30 p.m., responding to reports of a shooting. Investigators say the victim, 24-year-old Kevin Phouthonesy, had been in an SUV with his girlfriend when he was approached by an unknown male and shot. The victim’s girlfriend was not injured, police say.

In September 2006, two people were stabbed in a York University residence. From CBC:

The double stabbing of a young couple in a York University residence Tuesday afternoon is being treated as a domestic dispute, police said. Emergency crews were called to the scene by campus security around 2:30 p.m. and found two people — a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman — suffering from stab wounds. Police said the couple, whose names were not released, had been involved in a relationship that had recently ended. Both suffered knife wounds, police said. Don Valley Village is a Toronto neighbourhood that is located in the North York area of the city. The neighbourhood’s boundaries are Sheppard Avenue in the south, Leslie Street in the west, Finch Avenue in the north and Highway 404 in the east. The area has a variety of residential properties, from single family homes to townhomes, apartment buildings and condominium. It also has several commercial areas and shopping malls, the largest of which is Fairview Mall at Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue.

Don Valley Village Crime Rates

In the area bordered by Finch Avenue, Leslie Street, Don Mills Road and Van Horne Avenue, there is an average of 4.26 crimes against people per 1000 people living and working in the area. There is an average of 6.52 crimes against property. In the area bordered by Finch Avenue, Highway 404, Van Horne Avenue and Don Mills Road, there is an average of 2.97 crimes against people per 1000 and 7.36 crimes against property. The region bordered by Van Horne Avenue, Leslie Street, Sheppard Avenue and Shaughnessy Road has an average of 2.82 crimes against people and 4.33 crimes against property. The area bordered by Van Horne, Shaughnessy, Sheppard and Don Mills Road West has an average of 2.37 crimes against people and 15.69 crimes against property. In the area bordered by Van Horne Avenue, Highway 404, Sheppard Avenue and Don Mills Road East (including The Peanut) has an average of 9.55 crimes against people and 40.78 crimes against property.

Don Valley Village Crime

In September 2010, shots were fined in connection with a robbery at Fairview Mall. From City TV:

Officers allege 27-year-old Christopher Alexander and another man stole a bottle of cologne from The Bay at Fairview Mall shortly before the 9pm closing time on Monday. A security guard confronted them outside the store and one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and fired in his direction. The guard was not hurt and neither were the dozens of shoppers nearby. The pair fled and police recovered a gun in the shopping centre, near Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East.

Also in November 2010, three men were shot outside the Peanut Plaza near Don Mills and Sheppard Avenue. One man was killed in the shooting. From The Toronto Star:

Peanut Plaza, on Don Mills Rd. north of Sheppard Ave. E., was closed for a police investigation overnight after shots rang out inside a pub and outside in the parking lot of the strip mall just before 3 a.m. on Saturday. Paramedics transported two men to hospital, each with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. A third man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say several patrons inside the bar became involved in a fight and one of the patrons pulled out a gun, firing several shots before escaping.

Shots were fired during a bank robbery in the Sheppard and Leslie area in October 2010. From CP24:

Toronto police Const. Tony Vella says three masked men walked into a Bank of Montreal branch near Sheppard Avenue and Leslie Street at about 11:45 a.m. One man was carrying a gun, which he used to fire at least one shot, police say. The shot didn’t hit anyone, but one teller sustained minor injuries after being pushed by one of the men.
